OAKLEAF HYDRANGEA
Hydrangea quercifolia
Hydrangea quercifolia – the Oakleaf Hydrangea – is a must have for Australian gardens.
It is more heat-hardy, more sun-hardy, and more dry-hardy than other Hydrangea types; and is drop dead gorgeous too.
Grow Hydrangea quercifolia for beautiful flowers.
Long, large, graceful cones of creamy-white blooms begin in early summer. Then progress through pink and green shades as winter moves in. The cones of flowers can hang on right through winter in more sheltered sites.
Also grow Hydrangea quercifolia for outstanding foliage interest.
Because the large, oak leaf shaped leaves cover the bush lushly, and take on wonderful bronze, burgundy and wine shades as autumn and winter nights cool.
Hydrangea quercifolia is rated as a deciduous shrub, though in more sheltered positions it can retain the richly coloured leaves all winter.
Hydrangea quercifolia is more sun-tolerant, more tolerant of heat and dry than almost any other Hydrangea.
And the autumnal flower and foliage colour is more pronounced in more exposed conditions.
So you can plant Hydrangea quercifolia in either a partly shaded position or full sun position.
Rounded shrub approximately 1.4 to1.6m. High x 1.2m. Wide. May be deciduous or retain foliage depending on conditions.
Excellent in pots and tolerates coastal gardening. Frost hardy and can with stand very cold conditions well.
