Epimedium leptorrhizum boasts some of the largest, most spidery, long winged of all Epimedium flowers.
Blooms are delicate shell pink in colour.
And they come in huge flocks – so one of the most showy Epimediums too.
The foliage is also lovely.
With very long, pointed heart shaped leaves.
Emerging in spring flushed with bronze, deeply veined and sporting white undersides.
Then maturing to olive over summer, before blazing up with reds in autumn.
Perfect for planting as a hardy groundcover in part to deep shade.
Copes brilliantly with drier areas under trees and shrubs.
And will quickly fill a decorative container to light up a shaded area.
Easy low maintenance once established.
Low water need, extremely frost hardy, and forms a low, dense, groundcover carpet.
Effective at keeping weeds at bay under trees and shrubs.
Enjoys the compost from fallen leaves and acid pH conditions.
Chop the foliage back in winter to best display those delightful dove-like flowers.
