Salvia Africana-caerula
BLUE AFRICAN SAGE
Salvia africana-caerula is a welcome haze of soft blue from the start of spring right through into summer.
And even onwards – it is very long and prolific blooming.
This evergreen grows as a dense shrub of aromatic foliage,
and every stem is tipped with soft blue and cream Sage flowers.
The whole shrub is a wonderful colour and textural contrast in the garden.
With soft grey-green, small, furry leaves – beautifully setting off the hazy flower colour.
It grows as a dense, well-clothed, compact shrub.
Blue African sage is native to sand dune areas, so is very happy in well drained soil, sandy or rocky soils.
It requires minimal additional watering and is well adapted to hot positions.
While it enjoys full sun, it is also adaptable to many different conditions including part shade.
But it will not tolerate waterlogged or heavy clay soils.
Best of all – rabbits and deer do not like the taste of the aromatic foliage.
