Lavandula angustifolia 'Bridestowe Philippa'
‘Bridestowe Phillipa’ is a particularly fine Lavender variety to grow for cooking and making culinary treats.
Because it is considered to have the finest flavour of all the edible Lavandula angustifolia hybrids.
As a bonus it also supplies generous supplies of excellent cut flowers.
But it is also a fine garden feature.
Because ‘Bridestowe Phillipa’ bears deep, rich purple-blue flowers.
Which are held high above scented grey-green foliage.
The bush is rounded and soft, approximately 0.6m High x 0.6m. Wide.

A FRAGRANT HISTORY
THE STORY OF BRIDESTOWE LAVENDER FARM
In 1921 Mr. C.K. Denny took a brave step, moving his young family from his busy perfume business in London to far-flung north-eastern Tasmania. Hoping to start again in this new world, he brought with him a pocket full of Lavandula angustifolia seeds harvested from the finest lavender fields of southern France.
By 1924 C.K. was able to harvest and distil the first lavender oil from his Tasmanian Lavender plants, and bravely sent samples back to London for analysis. Eureka – it was of the finest quality and sweetness, free from the taint of camphor.
And able to even beat the French oil producers at their own game.
C.K. named their new farm in Tasmania to honour his wife’s birthplace in the little town of Bridestowe in Devon.
C.K with his sons Jock and Tim, continued to breed and refine their strains of Lavender plants for decades, until finally Tim retired in 1989. And the farm was on the market.
After a succession of owners, Robert and Jennifer Raven and their family, appeared like knights in shining armour to take over the work. They continue to develop and produce what is now recognized as some of the world’s highest quality and most pure lavender oil. And have successfully marketed new products to the world, such as their wonderful lavender ice-cream, and lavender filled heat bag bears. They continue to breed some of the world’s finest new Lavender varieties.
Making Bridestowe Lavender varieties world beaters, just like the farm they are named after.
RECIPE FOR BRIDESTOWE LAVENDER SCONES
This recipe makes about 20 scones, lightly and deliciously flavoured with lavender.
Serve with berry jam, cream, and your favourite tea.
Ingredients:
7 cups self-raising flour
1 teaspoon salt
600ml cream
1 can lemonade
2 tablespoons Bridestowe Lavender flowers cleaned from the stems (may be used fresh or dried).
Method
Place flour, salt and lavender in a bowl.
Mix cream and lemonade in a jug, and pour over dry ingredients.
Mix to a dough.
Knead gently and roll out to about 1.5 inches thick. Cut into rounds.
Cook at 180 degrees for about 20 minutes.

RECIPE FOR A REFRESHING FACIAL STEAM CLEAN
This is a brilliant way to clean the pores of your skin and stimulate circulation in the cheeks.
As well as calming and soothing your spirit with the scent of lavender.
You can use lavender flowers cleaned from the stems, either fresh or dried.
And, of course Lavandula angustifolia 'Bridestowe Ann' is particularly recommended for superb fragrance.
Place a small handful of lavender flowers in a ceramic bowl.
You can also add rose petals for a special scent sensation.
Pour over boiling water.
Place a towel over your head and gently breath in the steam from the bowl.
Approximately 5 minutes is recommended.
