BLUE PLANTAIN LILY
Hosta sieboldiana ‘Blue Angel’
If you could only have one Hosta – Hosta sieboldiana ‘Blue Angel’ would be the one for me.
Huge oval leaves, of powdery blue-grey, that glow with ghostly light in a deeply shaded position.
Leaves are heavily pleated to give great texture and each leaf can be up to 40cm. long.
Forms a dense clump of truly impressive foliage, then topped in summer with spires of pale lavender trumpet flowers.
Plant in shade to deep shade in either the garden or a pot.
Hosta sieboldiana ‘Blue Angel’ makes a stunning feature in a container, or as a mass planted groundcover under trees and shrubs, or in an area that is constantly shaded.
‘Blue Angel’ is lauded as being one of the most dry-hardy of all Hosta (once established); and one of the least attractive to slugs and snails.
Though raised in a pot with a copper band around the pot (available from hardware stores) Hosta are immune, and can thumb their noses at all the slimy predators.
